A Quick Start on the New Museum Season

The Ontological Museum has opened its fluxnexus wing of the museum with the domain www.fluxmuseum.org. We 21st century type fluxus artists have the opportunity to document ourselves. This is a continuation of the post-dogmatist program of self documentation through the establishment of its own institutions. The
FLUXmUSeum is available to storage, document and exhibit any works that any fluxnexus artist wishes to donate to it. Storage capacity for physical objects is somewhat limited - no elephants or cars or anything like that. Compactness in important.

In keeping with Ontological Museum policies, any registered member of the fluxnexus (one who has been assigned a PIN#) can establish their own branch of the FLUXmUSeum. Once enough materials are gathered, we could do branch exchanges of material in order to have continually scheduled fluxhibitions, fluxoramas and the like.

We are a few of weeks away from the beginning of a new art season. Would any of you like to help organize a traveling exhibition that would move around in a postal box from place to place and be put on exhibition for a weekend or so? You could have an opening party, invite your friends and have a blast - a fluxparty in a box. The box might include events, poetry readings, objects, performances and so forth to be created, performed, fabricated and exhibited that could be prepared quickly for a low cost... Send the photos and other documetation to the hub museum (fort worth) and I'll put it all on the
FLUXmUSeum website. On monday ship off to the next destination. Soon we could add 50 new international exhibitions to our fluxnexus resumes. I am sure, in  a few days we could throw something together and then improve it as it goes around. Each weekend could be critiqued by whoever is hosting it and then we could tweek it up until it seems really great.

TRAVELING FLUXHIBITION

Glad to hear that we are dreaming up something. This begs the question... perhaps we could come up with a poster or a postcard that we could all use for our local event? A postcard could have a cool graphic announcement of a fluxmuseum exhibition on the front and on the back each host could just attach a sticker with the local time and address and other details. OR if a poster, a space could be left for a local information sticker. Or, even cooler, could be a folding brochure that has some sort of textual material with several images or graphics. Then, if you don't want to make a permanent plaque for your abode or location where you will be having the exhibition, I could come up with a FLUXMUSEUM plaque that could included in the exhibition box and be temporarily attached to your exhibition location.

TRAVELING FLUXHIBITION

Que Tal Bibiana?!
Do you want consecutive weekends or no matter? Could be two different months? Side by side weekends will save postage of course since you would hand carry between venues. What are the names of the cities or towns that you will be conducting the exhibitions? So far we have Rome,  Milwaukee, Fort Worth, Prescott and
somewhere on the border in mexico. Walter is in Rome so it would be nice if we could arrange an exhibition in Venice, Paris, Heidelburg, Berlin, London, etc while the box is in europe. Anyone who has fluxus contacts in europe or elsewhere might contact them to see about including them.

As soon as anyone gives me firm dates I will start a calender with the city listed next to the date. So any that are willing to commit to a specific weekend please do.
Other possibilities are: If your going to be traveling somewhere and want to do a show at that location we could arrange that too. For instance I am going to be in Scottsdale for a show on the weekend of Oct 6-8. I have been invited to do something at the Prescott College (a couple of hours away) that weekend. I believe John Bennett, Sheila Murphy (if you know who they are) and others will be there the next weekend for some other project as I understand it from Sheila. I was thinking I could do a one day show at the college. If john and shiela were interested I could leave the box there for them to exhibit and add to. and then they could send it along to the next exhibit of take it home for an exhibit the next weekend before shipping it out. Also, if we know other sympathizers who are traveling around doing poetry readings, exhibitions and what not, we might arrange for them to put on a fluxhibition for a few hours in the city where they will be that weekend. -Really I guess a fluxhibition could just be a few hours long. It could even be done peek-a-boo style by merely opening the box and showing someone the contents and still be a perfectly valid fluxhibition.

In the meantime I would encourage people to start sending materials for the fluxhibition box pretty soon. No need for multiples so you can make something kind of nice (but fairly small). The shipping box could be any size. If there are enough objects included I could ship in a very nice old alluminum blanket box that I acquired at a garage sale a couple of weeks ago.  It is something ike 15x30x6 inches I'll get the exact measurements later. It can build over the course of the year and if there gets to be too much then the host, on any given weekend, can pick and choose, offering the opportunity to have unique exhibitions at each venue. We could also pick out favorite old school fluxus event and performance scores to throw in the mix and who ever is the host could include a number of their own works as a featured part of the exhibition and fill in with stuff from the fluxhibition box. I could empty the contents of my fluxbox into it if I can figure out where I stuck it. But I am in Texas right now and I think the box is in Mexico.

Yes, we're doing a performance in Prescott on the 13th of Oct.

If Sheila is agreeable, you could send it to her - I'll be travelling by air and really unable to schlepp the box around, but would be glad to add to it, etc.

Re: [fluxnexus] 1st International Traveling Exhibition of Fluxus by the Members of the Fluxnexus

Thanks Allan,
I guess the word fluxhibition is a completely new one because when I put that word in google it gave me zero results. So I suppose we can claim that to the fluxnexus lexicon as as a new word. I guess fluxus never has exhibitions or I am sure they would have called them fluxhibitions. Any way, I have added a picture of the Box that I have been mentioning. It is actually a nice sized box at 42x18x6.5 outside dimensions; slightly less for the inside. The aluminum is thin and very light weight. I would say the best way to fill it would be making a number of cardboard boxes and portfolios that would contain the various objects and fit the boxes and portfolios inside snugly. I am thinking six 9x12x5 boxes and 3 6x6x6 boxes and a 17x35x1 inch portfolio box to hold various oversized paper works. That will fill the box very well and compartmentalize enough to organize and protect many different things.

Re: [neofluxlist] TRAVELING FLUXHIBITION

Hi Sheila, Yes as I mentioned in the last note:

"I am going to be in Scottsdale for a show on the weekend of Oct 6-8. I have been invited to do something at the Prescott College (a couple of hours away) that weekend. I believe John Bennett, Sheila Murphy and others will be there the next weekend (oct 13) for some other project as I understand it from Sheila. I was thinking I could do a one day show at the college. If john and shiela were interested I could leave the box there for them to exhibit and add to. and then they could send it along to the next exhibit OR take it home for an exhibit the next weekend before shipping it out?"

So I guess we can see each other in Scottsdale at my opening? but Grace Vajda has invited me to do something on the 6th or 7th a poetry reading or something like that. But she does not want to do any sort of full scale exhibition and neither do I, nor could I on such short notice for that matter. But I could take a fluxbox with me and have a peek-a-boo exhibition (just open the box and pass around the stuff for people to examine and discuss)... And you could join me if you like Sheila! That would be really great.

Alright! sounds good. Are there any other fluxfolks in australia that
you could contact to add a couple of more venues? Any time is fine I
would say but if it can stay in the same area long enough to keep the
postage down all the better for everyone I would guess. Maybe we should
ask around a bit.
Check out the couple of new pages for the fluxmuseum galleries (they
are photomontages). http://fluxmuseum.org/gallery.html

I love your idea it sounds great. I would love to be involved (I am
getting some work ready to send to you) I would also love to host the
fluxmuseum, here in Australia. I am in Brisbane. I gather from your
posts that you are trying to cut postage by arranging show dates that
allow the box to stay on one continenet for a period of time so I am
not sure when it is best for the box to come down under but when it
does count me in.

THE INTERNATIONAL, TRAVELING FLUXHIBITION - 2006-07 SEASON

This exhibition is starting to take shape with a number of venue
commitments in place. Just to give you a deadline. The first place the
fluxhibition needs to be in a fairly complete state is by the last
weekend in September. That gives us 5 weeks from today to have
everything in the box. Your contribution can be in the form of poetry
for readings, small visual 2D and 3D works and objects that can be
pinned to a wall or put on a table or shelf, event scores, photographs,
performance scores, recordings, CDs, DVDs, etc. There will probably be
six 9x12x5 boxes and three 6x6x6 boxes and one portfolio measuring
roughly 17x30x1 for flat works like photos, drawings, etc. that will all
fit smugly into a 42x18x6.5 aluminum box.

Any visual items that you will be sending for the box, please send by
email digital, web ready images with description to me at
cecil@... if you are able, so that I can build the webpages for
the exhibition and create an inventory sheet of the contents. Otherwise
I'll scramble and document all the parts myself if need be.

Please see all details at http://fluxmuseum.org

Hoping you will participate,
Cecil

I put these two items in the mail today for the traveling exhibition:

1. Postcard with 3" square and instructions.

2. Small booklet (3" x 4") entitled "Some Sewer Grates between my  house and downtown Oberlin."

I am attaching digital images tot his message. The postcard should be  no problem, but the book is 14 pages plus covers. We'll see how it goes.

Allan, do you have the whole collection of headline haikus in a word file or something? That could be a nice addition to the fluxhibition box. Also I was thinking the whole exchange on nothing could be an interesting read as part of the material too if compiled into a single document.
